• Dr Samina M Dornan MD, FRCOG, areas of expertise include: prenatal counseling, Fetal Growth Restriction, prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy, fetal genetic disorders, including trisomies and fetal structural abnormalities including congenital iaphragmatic hernia. She also specializes and has extensively published in Complex twin pregnancies, especially monochorionic, with the fetal and placental biochemical responses involved in twin-twin transfusion syndrome. Her expertise also includes general obstetrics and gynaecology, along with managing high risk mothers, their pregnancies and fetuses.

  • Background

    Dr. Dornan became interested in fetal medicine during her residency and training program and was drawn to the idea of specialising in fetal diagnosis and treatment because of its multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to problem solving.


    “When patients arrive at hostpital, we care for them from pre-pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis through the postpartum period and beyond. Our hope and goal is to normalize and individualise the experience for each patient and their family, knowing that although their unborn baby may have a potential birth defect, expertise is at hand,”she says. “It’s the best experience I have had, observing how our patients and their
    families personify grace, with how they cope at what is often one of the most difficult times of their lives.”


    Dr. Dornan has an MD degree from Queen’s University Belfast, UK, where she completed her five year training program. This included a
    period at St. George’s Hospital London, where she subsequently obtained her first consultant position in 2009.


    Dr. Dornan is the first female Maternal Fetal Medicine sub Specialist, from the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist,
    London to be here in Dubai. In 2017 she received a Fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, London.

  • Social Responsibility

    As a young ambitious person she worked with Afghan refugees, especially women, in Pakistan border areas. She has and still is involved in elivering training sessions on safe deliveries, nationally and internationally. The most recent one has been in Egypt, Cairo, which was in conjunction with the RCOG. Dr. Dornan has also helped to establish Part 1, MRCOG Exam programs, in Pakistan, Islamabad. Currently


    Dr. Dornan has a special commitment to Global maternal and fetal health and brings the benefits of her extensive international experience to be a renowned women’s champion and she is a national and international speaker on many maternal issues.
